NAVARRE RIPARIAN LANDSCAPES

The AAVS Terrain Lab will take place in the School of Architecture of the Navarre University (ETSA – UNAV) from Monday 25nd of June till Thursday 5th of July.

The Lab will venture to the riparian territories of Navarre, shaped by the large-scale water engineering required for its intensive agricultural production. The riparian territories of Navarre have specific traditional formations that consist of flood irrigation, reduced plots, and small-scale agriculture. Especially present along the Arga and Ega rivers, highly skilled agriculture and cultivation techniques have a strong cultural tradition, that grows local products known worldwide.

 

UNAV CAMPUS

The AAVS Terrain Lab will be based at UNAV campus in Pamplona with accessibility to the computer and fabrication laboratories, library and other facilities from the university. Located at the very heart of the city of Pamplona, the campus is designed as an open park covering over 400,000 square meters and hosts architecture masterpieces by Rafael Moneo, who designed the Navarre University Museum in 2014 that holds a contemporary art collection (includes artists such as Picasso, Kandinsky and Chillida) and Juan M. Otxotorena that realized the definite headquarters of the Faculty of Economy and Business in 2012.

STUDIO SPACE

Terrain Lab will be based at the Edificio de Arquitectura y Tecnica. There will be a variety of internal and external studio spaces used for tutorials.

Students need to bring their own laptops, digital equipment and relevant software. Please ensure this equipment is covered by your own insurance as the AA takes no responsibility for items lost or stolen at the workshop.

CASA GURBINDO

The LAB will have the amazing opportunity to experience first-hand traditional cultivating and cooking techniques at the Casa Gurbindo located within the Aranzadi Park, a project completed in 2013 by AldayJover architects which formalize the interaction between fluvial dynamics, the progressive human occupation with agriculture and public space.

COAVNA

The AAVS will set up an exhibition in the COAVNA, Colegio Oficial de Arquitectos Vasco Navarro in Pamplona that will also host the final presentation of the workshop.
